From the Department of In Search of Lost Time: Now I know how disappointed fishermen feel when their wives don't want to hear their stories about the one that got away:
Last night a mouse stepped into the glue trap I set out behind the trash can and fought noisily for its life.
Me to Mrs A when I went in to say goodnight: “Did you hear the ruckus out in the kitchen?”“I did.”
“Did you hear me going out and back in the side door?”
“Yes.”
“Do you know what was going on?”
“I do.”
“So you don’t need me to tell you about it?”
“NO!”
I tried not to look disappointed.
I was having one of those aimless Twitter conversations tonight, about mother guppies eating their young; also hamsters.
And I don't think Mrs M needs anyone to tell her about that, either!
