Wanting to believe: Chris Rock as mob boss with a dream Loy Cannon in a scene from the TV series "Fargo" on FX.
Kansas City mob boss Loy Cannon discourses on America’s favorite type of criminal which, tragically for him, is not his type:
You know what I think? Every country has its own type criminal. In America, we got the confidence man. Snake oil salesman, grifter. He don’t rob you as much as trick you into robbing yourself. See, ‘cause in America, people want to believe. They got that dream. And a dreamer, you can fleece.
---from “Fargo”, Season 4, Episode 7: “Lay Away”.
I love the two scenes from the series that you've spotlighted here. They also illustrate why this series has frustrated me so. Alongside two or three excellent scenes, each episode has an equal or greater number of puzzling, frustrating, or just plain irritating scenes. The last usually feature the single most useless and obnoxious character I've seen in a long time: the serial killer nurse, who serves no purpose, steals time from more interesting characters and plot lines, and just plain bugs the crap out of me. It's rare that a character can cause me to stop watching a show, but the nurse did that. I'd really enjoy seeing a version of the show that trimmed away everything but the main story of the two gangs run by Chris Rock and Jason Schwartzman. I suspect that would be a significant improvement over what we got.
