My wife was looking for a home for her late mother's Remington that was used while her mom served as editor of the Daily Illini at the University of Illinois during World War II. She wrote a letter to Hanks, speaking in the voice of the typewriter, asking if he'd be interested in it. She never heard back, but I thought it was a good idea, as well as a charming letter. (She's since decided to hang on to her mom's machine, for both sentimental and aesthetic reasons: it's a beautiful typewriter.)

Bill, I'm glad she kept the Remington. I tagged Hanks when I posted the link on Twitter. Here's hoping he sees it and finally gets back to your wife, even if she no longer wants to let it go.
