My issue with "Space Force" is the same as it is with an "Air Force"; it takes what should be an adjunct to a national military strategy and divides it up simply by means and methods.

Things that fly to fight are useful only as they affect what happens on land or sea. When you let the people flying decide their own strategic purpose they will often tend to forget that; that's why Air Forces tend to end up being run by fighter jocks and ignoring things like close air support and airlift; those are boring and at the back-and-call of the groundlings. That's where "strategic bombing" came from; the idea of people who saw it as a way to GET an independent Air Force, by inventing a mode of warfare that wasn't determined by people and events on the ground.

Space is, effectively, Earth-orbiting satellites. Those are useful only as ways of gaining information about things happening on the ground. The priorities of defending them - and that IS what a "Space Force" would primarily do; develop new means of gaining information or communicating from low-Earth orbit, or destroy potential enemy means of doing the same - should be determined by the people using those satellites. Meaning soldiers or sailors (or intel weenies or spies or politicians). NOT by some Buzz Lightyear in a goofy-looking uniform.

So, nope. Keep the damn thing as a branch of the USAF, if we have to have it. A new stand-alone Service? BAD idea, at least militarily.
