One problem with Captain Marvel is that she doesn't have as much Marvel, the comic book company, back story as most of the other characters. For most people, say Captain Marvel and maybe they remember Shazaam. Then they remember that Shazaam was a movie that Sinbad starred in back in the 1990s, except that he didn't. Captain Marvel doesn't resonate. That menas she's hermeneutic. There is only the text, so the writers have to work without a net.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I hope to. As foreshadowed in the Infinity War, she'll be playing a major role in the next blockbuster. It will be interesting to see what they do with her. I doubt she'll just be a deus ex machina. It's worth a lot of money to Disney to do a lot more with her. (Please, not yet another princess.) Throwing her into the series post Infinity War without her realizing her basic origin would have been a bit much, but the Infinity War challenge gives the writers a good platform to develop her better.

One big difference between DC and Marvel comics was that Marvel characters changed as time passed. They were less predictable.
