Cathie from Canada

I tuned in late but saw the duet live and it was very effective, even though we hadn't seen the movie. In fact, we have seen exactly none of the movies this year, so we didn't mind in the least who won or lost. Makes it very simple, really.
But Spike Lee winning the screenplay award from Samuel Jackson was fun, too.
And I liked it a lot that there was no host -- some disembodied woman's voice just announced the presenters as they walked in -- quick and easy, no painful jokes, awkward insults, hysterical selfie moments, tourists in the front row, pizza deliveries, and the other bizarre stunts Oscar hosts have used as they try so desperately to make their appearance memorable. Award show hosts are really just like the referees in sports -- the game isn't actually about them at all, though they want us to think it is.
The Oscar news that I look forward to is Tom and Lorenzo posting about the fashion choices, mainly of the women but also of the men.
