I think this is a multi-level grift.

To the plutocrats (including the fossil fuel oligarchs here and in Russia) it's simply economics. Their livelihoods depend on climate change, they'll be long dead by the time the Holocene Thermal Maximum peaks and the globe turns back into the Paleocene, so the whole point it to stave off everything long enough to jack the last nickel out of the tar sands, etc.

To the fundies, yes; it's all on God. And they've been brainwashed by years of Prosperity Gospel crap to associate rich people with God (somewhere I recall seeing some religious parody of a stained glass window that showed a camel leaping effortlessly through the eye of a needle...). They're also credulous and gullible (I mean, their entire ethos is based on faith in an invisible Sky Wizard, right..?) enough to believe everything they've been told about how "climate change" is fake, or a Chinese plot, or something the lib'ruls invented to hamper God's plan to Make America Great Again.

And that leads us to the third level; the Trumpkins/teabaggers/Republicans. IT's not about God so much as about rollin' coal to own the libs. They don't care that the world will burn, so long as the liberals and coloreds and furriners and uppity wimmen burn sooner and hotter and more agonizingly. They're the woman in the Cletus Safari that complained how her biggest issue was that Trump wasn't hurting the right people hard enough.

Unfortunately for the rest of us, all three layers are working together to ensure that we are extinct sometime in the next hundred years.

And it's not so much that I MIND going extinct. It's just that going extinct should involve a massive asteroid impact, not a bunch of goddamn greedheads and mouthbreathing oxygen-thieves bumbling their way towards oblivion. It's not the tragedy, it's the farce of it.
