Frankly, anyone who is "confused" (or "surprised", for that matter) about the Low-Information President skating all over the place on actual issues or matters of policy hasn't been paying attention. That's who Trump is. That's who he has always been, or, at least, who he's always been for the last decade or so. He has enough room in his head for a scant handful of simplistic ideas; winning, good. Dusky people, bad. Money for me, good. Weakness, bad. Simple power for me, good. Complicated schemes that may give power to others, bad.

He knows very little about anything other than his short-term benefit; in that sense my nickname for him - the Tangerine Toddler - is a good descriptor. Like a four-year-old, he will lunge at whatever immediate gratification is dangled in front of him. He has no long-term sense. He can't put off grabbing that pussy to ensure that bad press won't come down on him when the word gets out. He will spout off when he senses that his mouth noise may be greeted with praise for him.

So when he got the dim sense that "people" were angry about schoolkids getting shot up and a bunch of Democratic legislators showed up with ideas how fewer schoolkids could get shot up he went with them. Then a bunch of ammosexuals and Republicans (but I repeat myself) showed up and told him that his "base" would be mad at him if he went with the Democratic ideas. So he went with THEM.

Because he has no actual internal principles he will always be pulled along by whoever talks to him last and dangles a shiny-pretty toddler temptation. Well, okay, other than power; he'll always go with whatever gives him more power.

Because to be weak is to be a loser. And to be a loser is not to be Trump.
