Dear most middle-aged Republican men and not a few Democrats and also some members of the political press corps,
The fact that your hero-president tries to kill people won’t make your dick bigger or turn your wife back into the twenty-five year you married or you into the twenty-five year old she married. Beautiful women won’t swoon for you, strong men won’t cheer. Your boss won’t back off. Your kids won’t start giving you the respect you deserve. The purpose of military policy isn’t testosterone boosting therapy for flaccid, flabby, aging men suddenly feeling their own approaching mortality and whose last act of heroism was that time two years ago when you were this close to telling off that guy who cut ahead of you in the beer line at the ballpark.
The attack on Syria won’t make you lean, strong, and handsome again, any more than it frightened Assad, flummoxed Putin, lifted Donald Trump’s poll numbers, or turned him into “the President”, even for a day.
Dear Lance,
Thank you, that was lovely. Got a cig?
I could use one right now.

Ah! The beauty of our weapons! Why, oh why, do the dusky savages laugh at our mighty sword..?
