I like the argument, and while I'm not prepared to pay Megaplex prices for the privilege (even though I'm a male Gen-X and so grew up with Schwarzenegger in the very air my fellow Gen-X males breathed) you have talked me into a slot in the Netflix queue.

The Shootist was indeed Wayne's Cogburn, more than Cogburn was (it's really Ina separate category, The Film When They Finally Decided That Major Star Deserved an Oscar). And speaking of women's Cogburns (right with you on Streep and Julie and Julia, though honestly I might argue Mamma Mia because she was having such fun with such panache, and because I like that sort of thing -- I will be interested to see what Brosnan's Cogburn is) could we say Angela Lansbury's was Mrs Potts in Beauty and the Beast? I mean if nobody's going to give her another Manchurian Candidate to work with....
