I think we need to see this Twitter conversation…

Seriously, I've noticed some people (invariably conservatives) retreat to the 'my ideology says so' stance, as if this means their positions can't be criticized or even challenged. They also hold that consequences of policies don't matter. The same goes for the outcome of elections and public opinion – unless they happen to align with conservative fashion (or they can pretend so).

(Rick Perry insists that abstinence education works, and who are you to harangue him with these pesky facts that say otherwise? David Frum can say that a certain policy is unacceptable to conservatives, never mind its merit. Boehner and the House Republicans – well, more Ted Cruz these days – can reject deals that massively favor them on the grounds that it's not complete and utter capitulation.)
