Ken Houghton

I was going to point out that 1985 is more than 25 years ago, until I saw that the article was from the last day of 2010.

Now I'll just point out that it won the Nebula in 1985, which means it was published in 1984. So, leaving aside its qualities, it shouldn't have been on the list.

El Jefe

It's interesting that here, as so often, many of the also-rans are the books/movies/songs/objets d'art that belong on the final list. In particular I would cite Lowry, Chabon, Rowling, and certainly Shantaram. Plus any of several among Elmore Leonard and Ivan Doig's bodies of work. And if we get Brits on the list (cf. Rowling) where the hell's Sir Terry? You may be a little hard on Pahlanuik. Not my cup of tea but I respect his skill set. As for my cup of tea, what about Chris Moore's Lamb? The vamp books and Sacre Bleu are good but that's the one that elevates him.

The omission of Wolf Hall and anything from Jeanette Winterson's relatively early work (Oranges-Cherry) is amazing, imho.
