Just saw the movie last night and I think overall it's a mess. Anybody trying to read politics from the film, or into the film, is wasting his/her time.

Warning - spoilers ahead!

Thank you. What's been driving me nuts about the discussion of the politics of this movie is that it doesn't have any politics. I got the sense that the people we see running wild after Bane takes over are largely the criminals he freed from Blackgate, not the ordinary citizenry of Gotham (who seem largely absent from the film). More to the point though, is that the film makes clear that everything Bane does is to make Bruce Wayne suffer. The speeches he gives about taking Gotham back from the elites are all a bunch of BS. He's no revolutionary, and he doesn't care about the people of Gotham - he's planning to vaporize them all!
