Hinchey is what Anthony Weiner should have been: a goddamn effective Congressman who sought consensus from his constituents and then made his mind up.

You were lucky, Lance. He was my part-time Congresscritter and was one of the few I actually enjoyed reading literature from.

He even looks the part, Lance. We used to have committee benches full of these guys -- looking much like Hinchey with variations in tie width and sideburn length based on era -- up on the Hill (both the national one and various state ones) who got **** done for us commoners. Tell him God bless in retirement, wish he wouldn't but he's earned a rest. Lest we get too upset, God I love that Jack Kimble tweet on the scroll at the moment ("If Newt wants to top [Obama singing Al Green] he should sing Me and Mrs. Jones." *That's* quality. Up there with the time one of Dan Quayle's own primary opponents suggested the VP "took an hour and a half to watch 60 Minutes."

I've been envious for a long time of those who live in his district. Here in 'leatherstocking' country, we've had to deal with Republicans and the occasional blue-dog Dem.

Huh, I hadn't realized you're close by.
I once went to Opus 40 in Woodstock for a summer Orleans reunion concert (long before John Hall won his seat...and was a damned fine legislator for his two terms...too good, I guess) and on the blanket behind us was Maurice...and everybody knew him and had the decency to let him listen and groove as just another aging hippie come to the concert. Still the One.
