Working on a review of The Floor of Heaven, by Howard Blum, a history of the Yukon Gold Rush seen through the eyes of three men who were there. One of the men is Charlie Siringo, a Pinkerton agent who became famous as the “cowboy detective.” After his adventures in the Klondike, Siringo was assigned to help track down Butch Cassidy’s Hole in the Wall Gang. Siringo’s undercover work helped in the capture and killing of Harvey Logan, also known as Kid Curry, the character played by Ted Cassidy in the movie.
“Rules? In a knife fight?”
But he wasn’t part of the Superposse railroad magnate E.H. Harriman hired to go after Butch and Sundance (“That crazy Harriman…if he’d just give me the money he’s paying to make me stop robbing him, I’d stop robbing him!”)…
“They’re very good.”
So he wouldn’t have been there for this, if it had really happened...
“They could surrender to us, but I wouldn’t count on it.”
