Thanks for the link, Lance. I've long resented that it is frequently cheaper to buy a new thing than it is to have it repaired... if you can find someone who will do it. I don't want something new; I want to keep using the old one!

Amen. I love repairclinic.com as a source for parts and know-how to fix home appliances.
My father-in-law held a grudge against Sears for not wanting to sell him the parts to repair his refrigerator because he wasn't "qualified". He reportedly told the operator, "NASA thinks I'm qualified to fix the space shuttle, and you're telling me I'm not qualified to fix my own damn refrigerator?"
