When my friends and I was this kid's age, we thought we were pretty handy when we nailed a few boards to a tree and called it a clubhouse.
WESTBROOKVILLE — On Tuesday afternoon Liam Naokes, 8, was in his father's woodworking shop, a small shed behind their house.
He pulled a pair of green safety goggles over his mop of red hair and concentrated.
His father, Michael, was standing nearby.
Liam picked up an electric drill, still a little big for his 8-year-old hands, and carefully placed the bit in a jig before beginning. This jig is used to guide Liam as he creates a pocket hole in the oak to attach other pieces from the inside.
Liam has been working with wood for only about a year but already has built a mission table, proudly displayed in the family living room, and cabinets in the family's bathroom.
And to think the blonde fainted when I tried to teach our guys how to use a circular saw when they were 8 and 6. We could have had new cabinets by now!
