There was a recent column in the NY Times about credit sequences (which are nowadays mainly at the end of the film rather than at the start) and how they should have their own Oscar award category. I couldn't agree more.
Richard Williams' work on a number of the Pink Panther flicks is great stuff. Then there's Saul Bass for Hitchcock. Great mini-films in their own right.
