I'm sure union-busting is a big part of the Congressional Republicans' hostility to a bail-out of the auto industry. And some of it is just a general "Not my constituents, so what do I care?" assholery. And some of---ok, a lot of it---is the reflexive Screw you for not being rich of their tribe. And there might even be a few who are motivated by honest Free Market conservative principles.
But I can't help thinking that in their hearts a lot of them are looking at the possibility of tens of thousands of people in Michigan losing their jobs and then their homes and seeing the opportunity to do to Detroit what Katrina allowed them to try to do to New Orleans, empty the city of Democrats.
Jokes going to be on them when a million other people around the country, many of them Republicans, many of them their own constituents, lose their jobs along with the UAW workers.
Yeah, but if you look at the GM Facility Map they're mostly in blue states (this election, anyway).
Republican Senators and Congressmen really are despicable people.
Amy Walters was on The News Hour and told us that Obama won 80 House districts formerly won by Bush, while McCain won only 5 won by Kerry. The Republican House members who are left are the most conservative of the bunch. If Obama tries to be bipartisan with that crowd he's gonna have to lean so far right he'll tip over.

Y'know, I'm a union man. I belong to more unions than my dad did and my dad was a lifelong construction worker.
Unions paid for my dental care, my medical care, my eyecare. They helped with my education. They helped my dad find work when he was laid off.
Unions gave my mom and dad pensions when he retired. Pensions. Guaranteed payments for life. My mom or dad wasn't worried when the stock market collapsed. They knew the union pension was going to save their bacon.
They didn't have to watch their 401(k) dwindle along with the rest of the money in the nation, draining away to, well, someone's pocket.
We need unions. We need MORE unions. Period.

You're right. But this also gives them the chance to sell Chrysler to China and bail out their buddies at Cerberus.
