Since I live in a blue patch of a very blue state I've never been faced with the choice of having to vote for a Bush Dog Democrat or an admitted Republican. How do the Bush Dogs go after votes? What sorts of slogans do they use?
"Like a Republican, only less racist"?
"Like a Republican, just that much harder to bribe"?
"Like a Republican, except that we have the good grace to act conscience-stricken when we trash our principles"?
"Like a Republican, but...you know...not...well, not exactly...not completely, anyway...ok, we're not all that different when you get right down to it but we are on another line on the ballot"?
"Like a Republican, only it's a lot more sexy to watch when we pucker up for George Bush"?
Way to look tough, too, Senator Obama:
Bowing to President Bush's demands, the Senate approved and sent the White House a bill Wednesday to overhaul bitterly disputed rules on secret government eavesdropping and shield telecommunications companies from lawsuits complaining they helped the U.S. spy on Americans.
Bowing to the demands of the most unpopular and incompetent President in history. That'll show 'em.
Mea culpa: The inconsitency here between my post yesterday and what I just said about Obama is based on my somehow having the idea that his "capitulation" on FISA was in his going back on his word to support a fillibuster. I don't know how it got past me that he was going to vote for the bill. Further proof that I should never be taken seriously when I write about politics.
Well, Evan Bayh's just been stopping after "Like a Republican" for twenty years now.
