I think of Blondie not as an "80's" group or at all emblemmatic of that decade; but, rather, as a late-70's, 'punk-transitions-to-new-wave' phenomenon. American Gigolo came out in 1980, and I see that, as well, as signaling the post-disco, 'Saturday-Night-Fever-turns-the-corner-into-the-swirling-B-52's' era.

Anita,

I think your technically correct, but the way we define eras is kind of nebulous, especially around music. When we think of the 60s what we really mean is roughly 66-73 or so. The 70s (meaning Disco and overblown coporate rock, Journey, Styx, etc) is really only '74-'77 or '78ish, the backlash had already started. The 80s starts in the late 70's with New wave and probably only lasts until '85 or so. To most people the 90s means grunge but that really starts in '88 and is over by '93 if not even sooner.

Just so Erik doesn't think Mary's accusing his comment of lying: I removed some comment spam between his and hers. The captcha feature's supposed to stop that junk and usually does, but every now and then one gets through. Makes me wonder if there are robots who can read the captchas or just armies of badly paid workers in spammer sweat shops somewhere going through blogs one at a time trying to make a quota.
