Remember what a jolt it was when Dion did "Abraham, Martin and John"? The King of doo-wop doing the folk singer thing. Bobby Darin did the same thing. Too bad that crowd never did listen. The nightclub hipster crowd, I mean. Music with meaning just slipped right by them. I wonder how many of those pro-war Reno-Tahoe nightclub types hollered out "WANDERER" or "RUNAROUND SUE" as he strummed an acoustic and sang about social justice. 1968 was a VERY weird year. You know it's weird when hipsters become hippies.

See, in the old days, you had to know what to do with the mike, AND the cord. The shoulder-toss was a neat touch.

This is from a movie I've seen but the name is lost in the mists of my sleep deprivation. Dig the chicks sitting in the front row like statues -- best dancing song ever and they don't even SMILE rhythmically. Crazy, man.

Best guess would be "Twist Around the Clock" (1961).

Side note: This is the type of music I grew up loving, which is why the transition into rap in the early 1980s was such an easy one to love.

a VERY cool song by dion is "Drip Drop" ... not sure what year it's from ... pretty sure it was before "Abraham Martin & John" though.
