The movies go to college. Not as often as they go to war. But they go, and there have been some great movies set on various campuses, real and imagined. Raises some questions that have no absolutely correct answers, although some are practically gimmees. For example:
Who is the sexiest male professor character in movie history?
If you didn't anwer Indiana Jones it's because you're trying to remember the name of the character Cary Grant played in People Will Talk.
Other good questions:
Who was your favorite movie college coach?
What's the best sex scene between two academics?
What old college friend would you never want to meet up with again?
Who was the best college girlfriend?
You've got your answers, the Shamus has his, plus more, all over at newcritics. And he's looking for your answers, your ideas for other college movie categories. Join the bull session. You don't have to raise your hand. All grades are pass-fail.
Here's one the Shamus didn't have.
Best Last Night Before We Go Off to School.
Too easy.
Speaking of where were you in '62... If you were Don Draper, you were two years past the setting for the TV show in which you're the main character. Mad Men live-blogging continues tonight at newcritics, with your host Tom Watson. 10 PM Eastern, 9 Central.
Isn't Ronald Colman a professor in Talk of the Town?
Because, you know, Ronald Colman.
Runners-up Michael Caine in Educating Rita and Gary Cooper in Ball of Fire.
Hell, if you scrape the grease off of Severus Snape he's Alan Rickman.
Also, Praetorious, I think.
