The 2-1 loss would have been just as appropriate as it would have symbolized the Robin Roberts era in Philly. Roberts lost a bunch of 1-0 and 2-1 games when he gave up one home run too many. Roberts told a friend of mine that he was the king of the F-8s (fly out to center), but occasionally some of those fly balls went too far.

Lance:

Thanks so much for thinking of all Phillies fans everywhere in our hour of triumph. I knew from the day I attended my first Phillies game (Saturday afternoon on July 5, 1969, Connie Mack Stadium) that the way of a fan of the Fighting Phils would be a hard one, as our hometown heroes fell 6-4 to the expansion Montreal Expos. For the Phils, it was just loss #7,093, but for an 8-year old kid who was too young to remember 1964, it was the start of great times ahead, interrupted only a few times by the occasional trip to the playoffs or, incredibly, the World Series.

Lest you think that 10-2 thumping was an accident, tonight they got beat by the Dodgers 10-3, even allowing the Dodgers, who surely have the fewest home runs of any team in either league, two three-run jobs.

I always get nervous when my guys score in double figures. It's irrational, but I keep saying "save those runs for later when we need them more."
