A good friend of my brother's has a house on the banks of the MacKenzie River, a few miles east of Springfield, Oregon, and he has osprey neighbors. It's still a swift mountain river there, flowing down from the Cascades, and must have wondeful fish, because those ospreys (who nest in the fir forests that come down to the water's edge) look tremedously vital. Big boys, too. Watching them soar above the rushing water, hunting, is beautiful and awesome.
