One of my favorite blog artists, Trish Wilson, got married today. She and her long time partner tied the knot in her beloved garden. She is now officially a countess. Her husband has a title. There's nothing to go with it, no castle, no stars and garters, no blood feuds. But the title is real and now Trish is a countess. Many of us think this is a step down for her, as we've always thought of her as a princess.
As I noted in the comments of her post announcing the happy occasion, Trish lives in Massachusetts. Gay people are allowed to get married in Massachusetts. Since gay couples have been getting married, Trish and her count decided to stop living in sin and make it official. This puts the Right Wing Fundies' argument to rest then, doesn't it? Gay marriage doesn't threaten straight marriage. Gay marriage causes straights to get married. Gay marriage is good for marriage!
There wasn't a cake at the wedding. Trish served truffles. She made them. Presumably using this recipee.
Congratulations to the Count and Countess. Please stop by and wish the happy couple well.
We didn't "live in sin" because gay couples did, although that would have been a great form of protest. We did it mainly because it took us nearly five years to find my husband's naturalization papers. He was born in Rome, Italy. They were in boxes we took forever to unpack. It still took us forever to get around to officially marrying because we're just plain lazy. Now, we're husband and wife in the state of Taxachusetts. Thanks for the congrats!
