One of the things I cannot forgive in Bernie is his belief, and the belief of his followers, that he is the only real dreamer. He slanders Hillary that she is corrupt, corporate, staid, conventional, unlikable. And he has apparently convinced hundreds of thousands that his is the One True Way. In reality Hillary will be the most progressive president the United States has ever had.
More and more, Sanders reminds me of the High Sparrow -- he and his minions lust to see Hillary do the Walk of Atonement.
Uppity woman, that'll show her!

He couldn’t bring himself to ask for the votes of the first three cohorts. Instead, he told them why they should give them their votes.

It's my experience that this is how ALL Democratic politicians campaign at the national level. "I am sure you support me, so you HAVE to vote for me. If you don't, you'll be supporting evil!" Throw in a reference to the Bush years and you've got the trifecta for Democratic "Get Out the Vote" rhetoric. Like the Republicans, Democrats neither care nor bother with the work of bringing in voters to their ranks, instead preferring to denigrate their opponents in hopes of victory at the polls through lesser-evilism.

Bernie slightly changed this by actually inspiring people to his cause(s), but he still ultimately believed (or seemed to believe) that strength of ideology alone is enough to sway people's vote.
