Falstaff

As I recall, I didn't read this review at the time because I hadn't seen Skyfall yet and I wanted to go in as completely unprepared as possible.

It actually put me to sleep at what I assume was a critical time, leaving me mostly unable to follow the plot beyond "Silva is very very bad."

I don't know. I do think your line about "people who never cared much for Bond in any incarnation before Casino Royale" is interesting, though, because that certainly applies to me. I'd watched and enjoyed the other Bond movies (I really, really liked Goldeneye) but I didn't *like* Bond, I thought he was a horrible person. More to the point, outside one or two of the scenes in Goldeneye, he didn't seem to be enough of a character to care about, or, when he did, he just... seemed like a dick.

I mean, he's still something of a dick in Casino Royale, but at least I found myself giving a damn about him as a person.

Of course, I hated Quantum of Solace and, outside of the actors' performances, I didn't really care for Skyfall.

Now I'm starting to wonder if I actually liked Bond at all.
