Fiddlin Bill

In my neck o the woods the buzzards are a constant presence, sometimes one or two, sometimes very many (there must have been nearly 100 birds standing around in a recently plowed field, possibly also 'nuer spread, back in October--they'd all fly up when I drove past, many of them passing in front of me and close enough that I'd have to slow down, and I wondered if they were possibly eating disturbed moles or something). I certainly wouldn't want a buzzard for a pet. But! By gawd they do a very necessary job for us humans. We'd be driving on blood and guts otherwise, and the stench...! Over all, I like 'em.

We don't have a lot of buzzards where I live. Roadkill tends to get eaten by crows. They always seem to fly away at the very last second. My comment on this brinksmanship: "I hope that was good."
