Thank you for the early morning grammar review. Poor Ezra. I think part of the problem is that the "genre" in which he writes demands multiple daily postings. His rush to produce copy may also produce errors.

I would quibble that in your "better than correct" version of the first example you prefer a dangling preposition to use of the object pronoun. I find that usually sounds less felicitous and occasionally raises confusion.

Chris, I see your point and I would agree---normally dangling a preposition is a practice with which I would not up with put---but I just hate "whom" and don't believe it can be said out loud, even correctly, without the person saying it sounding at least for the moment like Margaret Thatcher...or Margaret Dumont.
