Ok, this kind of childishness has got to stop.
I am not really all that enlightened or tolerant, but if “God” wants me to reject my friends and members of my family God can take a hike.
Of course, it’s not God asking. It’s just a bunch of people who think there is a God and they are the only ones who know what He wants.
I think it’s dawning on Right Wing Christians that the God they worship is, to most other Americans, a fictional character.
This “God” is the creation of a 16th Century committee of fabulists who translated a primitive collection of fairy tales and just-so stories into a book has been self-interestedly and self-servingly interpreted by cadres of self-appointed experts (preachers and priests) with the intent of giving themselves the power to bully their flocks.
This “God” is essentially an evil demon with a short temper who hates joy and demands abject obedience to his whimsical authority.
We might as well worship Darth Sidious or Voldemort instead.
Unfortunately for these Christians that book of fairy tales includes a Harry Potter/Luke Skywalker figure, a chosen one who is, contra Chris Broussard, the first and foremost rebel against “God.”
And whether or not they believe this chosen on is the Son of God, people like his message better than the father’s.
“Love ME!” commands the father.
“Love one another,” says the son.
