Had to quit playing chess with a progressive friend of mine. Got sick of listening to him shout every time I sacrificed a pawn, “Ha! You caved!”

It's a damned shame too many folks on our side of the political fence might get their sphincters in a twist over this lovely bon mot. In my crankier moments I might have told the hypothetical friend, "at least the Occupy folks got off their duffs to go play chess where they can spoil the Money Power's view." Lovely line. Have you tweeted it yet?

You should have offered to negotiate the pawn for a bishop or rook
Guy sounds like he'd have been stoopid enough to take it.

Personally, I love playing chess with Obama supporters. They always start by sacrificing the queen, agree not to castle their king, and negotiate an agreement in which they promise not to promote any pawns in exchange for unstated concessions to be specified at some future date.
