Well, this is dis-spiriting.
I’ve seen exactly one movie on the list.
Goodbye, Solo.
I plan to see Crazy Heart, if it plays around here. And SFMike, ace photoblogger and longtime commenter here, won’t forgive me if I don’t get to Avatar like yesterday. Fortunately, the young men Mannion intend to drag me to it this weekend.
Unless I drag them to Sherlock Holmes.
But they will get me to Avatar at some point.
So what should be next? Which movies on Ebert’s list (actually, lists) should I put at the top of the Netflix queue?

I feel a little better about Bob Cesca’s list of the Best Dramatic Films of This Decade because I’ve seen all of them.
Unfortunately, I haven’t seen enough of the movies in the last six or seven years to know if Bob’s right.

Updated in relief: I feel a little better about my movie going experience after reading Shawn Drury’s The Nextflix Decade – The Best Movies of the 2000s. I’ve seen at least half the movies on this list!

I can speak highly of Hurt Locker and Up In the Air. (I think Hurt Locker came out today on DVD).
...an apolitical movie about the Iraq War. Whodathunkit?
I think you'll like Up In the Air. Plenty of irrational Progressive vindictive hatred toward capitalism. Quality performances. One of the few movies I've seen this year worth the scratch of seeing them in the theater.
On the other hand... "Knowing?????" "Knowing????" Holy cuss. That would have to be a contender for a lot of "Worst of 2009" lists.

Seconding The Hurt Locker, which is the only one on either list I've seen.
Otoh, a "mainstream" list that does not include Up makes me very suspicious of the writer's taste, even if he is an old fanzine writer.

"Knowing" shouldn't be on anyone's top 100 list, much less top ten list.
