Why just John, Robert and Edward? All of the offspring of Joe and Rose are gone. And while I have my own issues with the family, I am genuinely sad that this remarkable generation has passed. A remarkable group.

Linda,
Only because Ted's at the center of the photograph. You're right. An amazing crew! Here's a good family shot.

By the way, his sister Jean is still alive.

What remarkable men they were. I wonder if we'll ever see their kind again. (I hope so. I hope I'm just having a fit of romantic ennui.)

I forgot all about Jean. I'm heartened to know that there's still a link to that generation still alive.

It grieves me that the last of a generation that seemed devoted to doing right by doing good is gone (blogged about that today, in fact).
The Kennedys seemed to be able to dig in and get things done that actually helped people. Even John Jr, Caroline, Robert Jr, and a host of others of that next generation have done this, albeit without the help of the resources of government behind them.
We need a new Camelot.

There's something to be said for noblesse oblige. When you're born with all that money, getting some doesn't have to be the focus of your life. The Bushes never had the kind of money the Kennedys did, and became professional bag men to make money.
