Your cookies are in the mail, and I've bumped all of the Republic of Dogs Holiday "Yeah, We Said Holiday, What Ya Gonna Do About It" Bake-Off entries back up to the top of my blog for review by the judges. I have a sneaking suspcion that the baked goods will not be as beautiful upon arrival as they were when we packed them, so judges are encouraged to review the photos carefully.

Res, stop talking about Lance's cookies. It's embarassing. And remember Mannion -- you love me best.

Also -- this was/is a great post. It deserves a great comment. And I really don't have one -- except to say that I truly fear that I will have to suffer through such conservative talk on Saturday night.

"Good riddance NOLA!"

"They need to stand on their own two feet -- that's for sure!"

"We need to trust the President!"

Etc. Etc. Etc. Neverending -- Etc.

And I -- like you -- will have *....the urge to take them by their collective shirt fronts and shake them until their back teeth rattle, while demanding to know, "How much more damage does the guy have to do before you admit he's a total fuck-up?"*

But I, with all the Christmas joy and love I can muster in my heart, will not.

That's is -- unless I've had too much egg-nog -- then all bets are off, baby! I'm only 5' 2", but I swear I can do a lot of damage!

There are many millions of Americans who just want to like their President, no matter who he is or what party he belongs to. They are not Red State Americans or Blue State Americans. They are Red, White, and True Blue Americans and they believe in supporting the man in the White House come hell or high water because he represents the United States to the world.

Actually, Hugh Sidey passed away last year.

Look, short-stuff, this contest isn't about who the judges "love the best", but who dominates the kitchen. Let's not confuse the issue.

Let us all remember this one thing:

The song goes...

All You Need Is Love (da-na-na-na-na) All You Need Is Love (da-na-na-na-na) All You Need Is Love, Love.

All You Need Is Love.

It does NOT go:

"All You Need Is Cookies."

It is grammatically incorrect.

Impressive work, Lance. And whoever's cookies end up in your mouth, may you enjoy them. Or something.

I'm glad you brought this up - I know many people who opposeBush/supportPresident Bush supporters. I tend to be the opposite. I am an againstist, by nature and think people in power should be hold to more of an account, not less. I also believe too much grief is sent toward the powerless and those who follow orders, rather than give orders. Why are most people the opposite? It's a complicated answer. When Clinton was in office, I opposed much of what he did, unlike most Bush opponents. Yet, none of his partisans acted as if I were seditious because I thought he was less than honest about many things. This rally around Bush process, which Carter has noted, is not just rallying around the President - it's married to a general rightist sentiment that has grown, as the center has weakened. There are people in Bush's base, who are prominant now, who would have been regarded as way out of line just a few years ago. It's marries to many other trends, not just econ, but also religious. Many on the right would now tell you Carter and Clinton were not Christians, even though they are, and they would tell you that Franklin and Jefferson were, even though they were not. No lie would register for most of them when they say that. It's this force, that Bush rides on. Everyone else is for the ride.
