On tap for today: The Mannions are heading down to Oyster Pond to swim and hunt for moon jellies and spider crabs. The other day the boys read that there are two kinds of spider crabs in the Atlantic, nine-spined and six-spined, and they want to see which kind lives around here. Which means that we'll be giving a skip to the Twelfth Annual Opitmists Regatta at the Stage Harbor Yacht Club.
An optimists' regatta?
Shouldn't good sailors have a healthy dose of pessimism? I don't think I'd want to put out to sea with an optimist.
"Oh it'll clear up!"
"It's just a small leak."
"There are no sharks in these waters."
No, thanks, skipper. Cast off without us. We'll be hugging the shore this morning. Spider crabs haunt the shallows.

When I lived in New London (yes, the one in the eminent domain case) back in the 1950s we used to see horseshoe crabs on the river bank. I imagine the kids would be really interested in those as well.

Boyo, I hope you are having a good time because we are all enjoying the travelogue. More pictures! Keep it up!

Link,
I don't live in New London, but I live near enough to it. And I have in-laws who live even closer. A report from the front: Darn the luck, but the horseshoe crabs have all moved offshore.

Mac, there's a joke there about taking their property offshore to avoid Pfizer and New London's confiscatory takings, but...
